Bill Kendrick's Awards and Mentions
WebFX Mentioned In "Inside The Internet"

The September, 1998 issue of the ZD Journal magazine "Inside The Internet" had a review on page 14 of my WebFX website (a cool graphics tool you use over the web).

SPECIAL EFFECS FOR YOUR GRAPHICS

If you're looking for that "little something extra" to make your Web graphics distinctive, special effects are always worth trying. A well-chosen effect can transform the most ordinary-looking piece of clip art into an eye-catching image the reflects your unique personality.

Casual users may not want to bother with downloading, installing and learning how to use a graphics application for the sake of just one or two images. Fortunately, there's another way. Bill Kendrick's WebFX offers a nice variety of special effects you can apply to any graphic on the Web by merely filling out a form on the home page, which you can see in Figure A. you can find WebFX at

USING WEBFX
To use WebFX, enter the URL of the graphic you want to process and select an effect from the dropdown list. If the effect has an asterisk next to it, you also have a choice of low, medium or high intensity.

After making your choices, click on the Apply Effect button. In a minute or two, you'll get a page that shows your graphic with the special effect applied to it. Figure B shows a title graphic from the Dancing Mouse Studios Web site. Figure C shows the results of applying the "Negate" effect to it.

Kendrick currently has over 40 effects in his ever-growing selection. They include wood and metallic textures, frames, a selection of color filters, and other assorted goodies. If that's not enough, some effects produce animated GIF's that can, for example, make your image swirl around, ripple, or dissolve into particles.

The only limitation is the size of your image. The original version of the Dancing Mouse graphic is 300 x 169 pixels. Although WebFX worked with no problem, most effects resized it to 200 x 112, persumably to ease the load on the server.

As always, you'll want to avoid copyright problems and the anger of other Web site owners. Use only your own images or images from sites that explicitly designate their graphics as free for anyone to use.
